Top 5 All-Natural Mosquito Repellents
Summer is coming upon us quickly, and for many, that means being able to enjoy the outside world and fully embrace the warm days while they last. Maybe camping is on the agenda, or perhaps hiking is your favorite thing to do. Whatever your preferred activity is, there is one thing that everyone will have to face, and that is bugs.

Bugs, especially mosquitos, are pesky little creatures, which entices people to reach for the first bug spray repellent they see on the shelves. However, before you invest in commercial repellent, take a look at the ingredients. They are so dangerous that the Environmental Protection Agency has deemed them poisonous and should be washed off immediately when returning back inside. Even with this reality, the great news is that you do not have to utilize those repellents and can go with easy homemade mosquito repellents instead that will do the same job while giving you peace of mind.

🌳Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

Lemon eucalyptus oil has been used since the 1940s and is a well-known natural repellent. Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved it as an ideal and effective ingredient for making your own mosquito repellent. All you have to do is mix together 1-part lemon eucalyptus oil with 10-parts of either sunflower oil or witch hazel.

🌺Lavender

Lavender flowers may attract butterflies, but they work exceptionally well on repelling mosquitos, especially adult ones. Lavender contains analgesic, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities that make it less likely for you to get bitten when used in a homemade repellent. To make your own using this ingredient, get lavender flowers, crush them up and apply the oil on your skin. Simple, yet very effective!

🟤Cinnamon Oil

Cinnamon oil may sound strange as a repellent, but this oil can kill off mosquito eggs and repel adult ones from biting you. Though it works on all types of mosquitos, it is exceptionally good at getting rid of the Asian tiger mosquito. To make your own repellent, mix 1/4 of a teaspoon (or 24 drops) of cinnamon oil for every 4 ounces of water. Ensure it is diluted enough, so the oil does not irritate your skin. Then either use a spray bottle or cloth to rub into your skin.

🌿Thyme Oil

Thyme oil is one of the best all-natural solutions for protection against malarial mosquitoes. Another cool thing about it is that you can use it in other ways aside topically. By throwing some Thyme leaves into a campfire, you can get up to 85 percent more protection against mosquitoes. As for a topical repellent recipe, combine 4 drops of the oil to every teaspoon of a base oil, such as olive or jojoba oil. If you want to make a spray instead, mix 5 drops of thyme oil with 2 ounces of water.

🌱Soybean Oil

Soybean oil and associated base products are excellent repellents. In fact, some children commercial repellents use this as an ingredient, such as Bite Blocker for kids. Since it is a long-lasting and natural route to go, try investing in pure soybean oil and applying it to your skin. For superior results, you can also add a bit of lemongrass into the oil to guard off even more mosquito species.

Conclusion

Nothing puts a bigger damper on summer outdoor activities than getting bitten by mosquitos. It can also be disheartening when you realize how dangerous and toxic commercial repellents are. Did you know that chemical DEET can melt plastic fishing lines? Also, Permethrin can kill your brain cells. These are certainly things you would not want anywhere near your body. Instead of having to choose between the two evils, bugs or sprays, try the all-natural mosquito repellents above so you can be safe, protected and can enjoy summer to the fullest.
